Mentor Lake Catholic -11 vs. Canfield

Howland -10 vs. Ashland

Northwest vs. Dover -15

Stuebenville -24 vs. Salem

Genoa -23 vs. Orrville

Amanda Clearcreek -20 vs. Coshocton

Malvern -4 vs. Bridgeport

Week 10 East Central Ohio High School Football

Malvern (-17) @ Sandy Valley

Sandy Valley, believe it or not are still alive to make the playoffs.  That’s because they are playing a 8 win Hornet team.  Malvern has stepped up to the plate this year and played every good team very tough.  I just don’t feel that Sandy Valley has enough talent to stay with Malvern all night.  I congratulate them though for a decent year.  Malvern wins this and moves on with a home game in the playoffs.

Timken @ Triway (-30)

Triway is trying to make good position for a playoff spot.  Timken should really not be able to stand in their way.  This will be another tough year for the Trojans.  It seems like this is a constant trend for them.  I like Triway big in this one.

Canton South (-5) @ Carrollton

Will my prediction come true?  Carrollton losing their last 4 games and missing the post season.  The Warriors could win this game and still miss out.  The one intangible is every time I favor the Wildcats, they lose and when I dont then win…Go figure

GlenOak (-23)@ Perry

As long as GlenOak don’t have a let down, this should be a cut and dry score.  Perry has really struggled all year but that’s why they play the games.  GlenOak wins and gets a home game to start week 11.

CVCA @ Manchester (-7)

One of the better games in the area this week.  This has playoff implications written all over it.  I feel Manchester has played better overall over the coarse of the season.  This could go either way but I like Manchester in a close one.

Marlington (-21) @ West Branch

The Dukes have an outside chance of getting a home playoff game with a win and some help.  They played Louisville tough and I don’t see West Branch making much of a game after the shellacking they took last week.  Marlington wins big and moves on to week 11.

Jackson @ Hoover (-28)

Can Jackson salvage just one win this year?  I don’t think so.  Hoover will be fighting for their playoff lives this week.  Either way if they win or lose they will drop in the standings in region 2.  The Vikings should win this because Jackson won’t have an answer for the running game.  We should see the Viks in the bottom part of region 2.

Northwest (-18) @ Alliance

The Indians should be fired up to win this one.  They wont get a lot of help with a win for playoff position but with a little help from some of their other games they won this year and a weak region 11, they should slip in.  Don’t look for the Aviators to just lay down as they have hung tough in some games this year.

Louisville (-17) @ Minerva

Well, this is the last shot Minerva has of making the post season.  A win and they will jump up considerably.  This game is sure more important for them than the Leopards.  No matter what, the Lions really have not beat anybody this season and Louisville has.  No let down here.  Louisville wins and ends the playoff hopes of the Lions.

Tuslaw (-24) @ Fairless

What a perfect way to a least finish .500 this year.  Fairless is only scoring less than 7 points a game and those are late touchdowns to boot.  Tuslaw should have nothing to worry about come Friday night.  Better luck to both teams next year.

West Muskingum (-38) @ Claymont

The Mustangs have struggled all year with good opponents and it looks like they got another one.  Muskingum has beat their last two opponents 35-0, so I say that it will be a little worse than that.

Indian Valley @ Tusky Valley (-2)

Might be a barn burner here.  I say that the Trojans have a slight edge in this one and plus their home.  Hopefully next year both of these teams can turn it around in the winning way.

Massillon (-11) @ McKinley

Any time there is a rivalry you should through the stats out the window.  The Tigers have shown this year that they can hang with the big boys while the Dogs have shown great inconsistency.  I really feel if the Tigers don’t get away from what they do well, they should win.  Remember they are fighting for a home game in the playoffs and McKinley is fighting for their lives.  They had their chances, we all know that.  I like the Tigers in a fairly close game.

New Phila @ Dover (-1)

Maybe the game of the state.  The quakers have put up some big numbers, but against who?? Their non conference teams record is 8-28 and Dover’s is 26-10.  I know that dont mean much come Friday night but their is really nothing really to go off of.  Dover has won 12 out of the last 14 and the only two wins that the Quakers have against during this time are a combine of 4 points.  This game will be a duzy and its hard to say what the outcome will be.  Turnovers will be key and Dover’s Defense will hinge everything in this game.  As you can see the spread is small but I will go with the long trend of the last 14 meetings to make this decision.

Week 9 East Central Ohio High School Football

New Phila (-42) @ John Glenn  (Thursday night)

John Glenn is down this year from having some decent years in the past.   Phila  should roll in this game.  Expect to see the Quakers drop out of the top 8 this week in the computer poll making the Dover game a must win to reach the post season.

Tuslaw @ Triway (-27)

Triway has done some damage against some good teams this year.  Tuslaw is average at best.  Triway needs this game to make good position for playoff contention.  I don’t think they will let this one slip away.  I like Triway to win convincingly.

West Branch @ Northwest (-15)

The Indians will need to win the last two games to see the post season.  West Branch will offer them the most computer points of the remaining games.  It’s not the game of the week but it is for Northwest.  The Warriors have been fairly inconsistent all year and you don’t know what you might get from them.  Indians should pull this one out.

Dover (-23) @ Coshocton

A lot on the line for both teams here.  A win for Dover and it should almost guarantee a home playoff game.  Same for the Redskins.  I feel that Dover’s Defense will control this game allowing the Tornadoes to win this game handily.  Coshocton may keep it close for a while to keep it interesting.

Perry (-13) @ Jackson

Anytime when I see an 0-8 team like Jackson, I often wonder how much drive they have left.  Both teams really have suffered this year with no glimmer of any positives.  The Panthers should pull this out but I feel this could be a game that could allow Jackson not to go winless.

Hoover (-4) @ GlenOak

Probably one of the more interesting match ups this weekend.  Can Hoover stay on a high after that very emotional win last week?  Both team are in the thick of things for division 1 region 2 playoffs.  This game could go either way but if the Vikings can stay on a high, I like them.

Claymont @ Meadowbrook (Pick em)

Just another bad ECOL game.  I looked at all the records and stats and could not come up with nothing.  This is a coin flip.  This will be boring and low scoring.  You tell me who will win!

Marlington @ Lousiville (-13)

Huge game for Marlington.  A victory and they will clinch a playoff spot with a home game in region 11.  The Leopards are already in and are looking good.  I still feel that Marlington has a lot to prove and we will find out were they stand after this one.

Indian Valley @ CVCA (-34)

This game I don’t feel should be too close.  CVCA is a playoff contender with a bigger and faster team.  Could be a lot of yards on the ground for the winning team during this one.

Tusky Vally (-14) @ Fairless

Just two teams trying to salvage anything they have left for this year.  I feel the Trojans have just a tad more fire power that should lift them to a victory over the Falcons.

Carrollton @ Minerva (-10)

Very important game for these two schools.  I see it as the winner is probably in and the loser will be relaxing in week 11.  The Warriors have a better position currently but the Lions could sneak into the top 8 with a win.  I will still stick to my prediction of the warriors losing the last 4 games and missing the post season.

Alliance (-3) @ Canton S.

There is nothing more to say than bad coaching at South.  This team should be at least fighting for post season contention.  The Aviators are a team that has stayed close and I would not take them lightly.  There probably one of the best 1-7 teams in the state.  I like Alliance in a close one.

Mentor @ Massillon (-24)

The Tigers showed up last week and proved their one of the better teams in region 2.  The only common opponent these teams have is Iggy.  Massillon stayed close and Mentor got manhandled.   The Tigers will snap their 3 game losing streak to this team.  I like the tigers big in this one.

Boardman (-9) @ McKinley

How do you give up a 32 point lead in one half!!  Somethings wrong in Canton.  Is it coaching? Discipline? The community?  I don’t know.  This is a team that truly has talent but needs direction.  Boardman is fighting for a playoff spot and I don’t think they are going to let the Bulldogs be the one that spoils it.

Week 6 NFL $ Picks $

* Chiefs @ Redskins (-6 1/2)  O/U: 37 1/2

Here we go with the most boring game of Sunday.  Heads up during the last 4 meetings the Chiefs are 4-0 against the spread.  I feel that this could be the week that the state of Missouri gets their first win.  Also these are two teams that really don’t have offensive fire power.  That’s why I would take the under if you can and take the Chiefs getting the points.

Browns @* Steelers (-14 1/2)  O/U: 38

I know Browns fans are excited about their first win.  I know that I would only scoring 6 points.  Bottom line, I dont need to give a lot of numbers in this other than that the Steelers have dominated this series this decade.  Cleveland can’t score and they won’t again this week.  I like the Steelers BIG!

* Lions @ Packers (-13 1/2)  O/U: 48

The Packers have really under performed in my opinion this year.  They leave average teams hang around too long.  The Lions are a tad better than last year just still don’t have a defense.  I can see the Lions hanging around until the 4th quarter and allowing them to cover the spread.  This really is a wild card game and I am not advising taking this game either way.

GAME TO PROFIT ON!!

* Eagles (-15) @ Raiders  O/U:  41

I was surprised to not see this game open in the 20’s but that’s good news for us!  After one of the Giants linebackers said last week ”it was like playing a scrimmage” it tells me that the Eagles will have their way with this team.  The Eagles are 3-1 against the number this year with them scoring in the mid 30’s in their wins this year.  Oakland has only scored 16 points in their last 3 games and they give up a ton.    Can’t lie but I got a lot on this one.  If you want to profit take the Eagles given up 15.  The spread will probably climb more since it had already opened at -14.  The over/under, take the over if you wish.  Phily can probably score that themselves.

May you be profitable.

10/12/2009 College Picks

Here we are now almost mid-way through the College football season and I want to help you make a little extra change for you this week.  Take a look at these 4 key games that will help you profit!

* Ohio State -14 @ Purdue

In Big Ten play this year, the Buckeyes are averaging a 31-10 final score.  Between the two schools, the favorite is 7-3 against the number.  OSU are 5-1 against the number this year and are 20-6 verses the number during their last 26 road games.  I like the Buckeyes given up the 14.  Take this game early as I feel the spread will gain throughout the week.

* USC -10 @ Notre Dame

Maybe the game of the week or at least the most publicized.  The average margin of victory for the Trojans against the Fighting Irish is 26 points, 6 out of the last 7 meetings.  Also the favorite in this game is 7-1 heads up.  I feel the Trojans are getting better as the year goes and Notre Dame takes too many games down to the wire.  USC will not allow the Irish to hang around that long.  I like USC given up 10.

* Texas Tech @ Nebraska -10

I have not been sold on Nebraska for a number of years and I know that they are doing better than normal but….Against the only ranked team Virginia Tech they faced this year, they lost.  And really other than that their competition hasn’t been much.  As we all know Tech can score and in bunches.  I feel with them getting 10, its a safe bet to take Tech.  I wont encourage it but I wouldn’t be surprised to see an upset.

* Arkansas @ Florida -24

You can’t deny that Florida is the best team in the country but I feel that the Razorbacks have done well enough this year to keep this somewhat interesting.  In SEC play the Gators are not putting up the big blowouts like they were when they were playing Charleston Southern.  Arkansas has played well at times and I feel getting 24 will be a safe bet going to the swamp.

10/12/2009 College Picks $$

Week 8-East Central Ohio High School Football

Akron Manchester (-14) @ Tuslaw

Tuslaw has not shown that they can beat competive teams this year.  Manchester’s only loss comes to Coshocton earlier in the year.  Since then they have been pretty dominating.  Tuslaw may keep it close for a while but at the end of the day, it will be all Manchester

Canton South @ Marlington (-9)

Before I say that I have given up on South, I feel they have given up on themselves.  I feel the Wildcats are defeated before the games even start.  They have really nothing to play for now.  Marlington is trying to hold on to a playoff spot in region 11 and that being said, they have much more to play for.

Claymont @ Coshocton (-49)

The Mustangs have only beaten two teams this year (Indian Valley & Riverview).  Enough said!  Coshocton is looking to get a top 4 spot in the playoffs for a home game.  I don’t see this being much of a game.  Coshocton big!

Meadowbrook @ Dover (-52)

This should be the last push over for the Tornadoes this year.  I can’t remember if the Colts have kept it closer than 35 in any of their last meetings but I’m sure it will be no different than any other year.  Dover can make this score whatever they want.  Dover huge!

Jackson @ Lake (-11)

Jackson has stayed close in some games that I felt they would have gone blown out.  I don’t think Lake should take this team too lightly.  I feel the Blue Streaks should win if they stay focused but don’t be surprised if 0-7 Jackson takes it to the wire.

Fairless @ Indian Valley (-13)

Fairless is only averaging around 7 points a game this year and they give up a ton on defense.  Indian Valley has shown some spirts of life on offense.  So that’s why I like the Braves to pull this one out fairy convincingly.

Minerva (-6) @ West Branch

Minerva is now on a 2 game losing streak after a 5-0 start.  They are a minimal bubble team to get into the playoffs.  I feel this game could go either way but I feel that Minerva has more to play for.  It all starts this week for them as they need to knock off the Warriors to stay alive.  This one’s truly a coin flip???

Warren Harding (-3) @ Massillon

This will be a good one.  Harding only lost to Iggy by 3 and the Tigers lost to them by 5.  My fear for the Tigers is a major let down after going to Death Valley and losing.  This game is one that could go either way.  There is a lot on the line for the playoffs right here.  Massillon needs this game bad because the first 5 teams they beat will not be enough for second level points to qualify for the post season.   I like Harding close in this one because I feel there will be a letdown for the Tigers.

CVCA (-34) @ Timken

Not much to say here.  CVCA should dominate this game for the get go.  With CVCA not being as strong as last year, the Trojans are only averaging about 9 points a game.  Should be no problem for the visiting team.

Northwest (-21) @ Carrollton

The Warriors showed me last week against Louisville that they were not a legit 6-0 team.  I really feel that Carrollton will lose their last 4 games and miss the post season.  Northwest has shown improvement the last two weeks and I feel that they will slip into the region 11 playoffs.  This will be a key game for the Indians, beating a team with 6 wins to help with their second level points.

Louisville (-31) @ Alliance

Alliance has kept it close with a lot of teams this year including taking 3 games into OT.  This week I don’t see this happening.  Louisville has too good of a defense to allow the Aviators to hang around.  This should be another big margin of victory for the Leopards.

Cambridge @ New Phila (-42)

The Bobcats will better next year but this year the ECOL goes through either Dover or Phila.  The Quakers are scoring a lot of points this year and this game should be no different.  The competition should be a somewhat better but nothing the Quakers can’t handle in rout.

McKinley @ Hoover (-7)

This game is bigger than you might believe.  The Bulldogs as of right now are way out of the top 8 but the remaining part of their schedule would provide them enough computer points if they win to make the post season.  For the Vikings, they are sitting in the top 8 but with a lose, could fall out of it.  The running game for Hoover is what everything hinges on.  If Hoover can execute the run they’ll win, if not it could be a big victory for the Bulldogs.

Week 7-East Central Ohio High School Football

5-1 Minerva @ 3-3 Northwest (-3)

Even though Minerva has 5 wins this year, they are against teams with 1-5 records.  Plus they got throttled by Marlington last week.  Northwest is still trying to iron out their spread offense with an undersized but fairly fast team.

1-5 Alliance @ 5-1 Marlington (-22)

Marlington did impress me somewhat with the convicing victory last week against Minerva.  Alliance went to Carrollton and took it into overtime but I am still not sold on the Warriors yet.

6-0 Carrollton @ 6-0 Louisville (-21)

This is the game where the Warriors can make me believers even if they keep it close.  I don’t believe it will happen as another stong Louisville team should dominate from the get go.

2-4 West Branch @ 1-5 Canton South (-3)

For some reason I feel that the Wildcats have a fairly talented team.  They have kept it close for the most part with most everybody they played.  This is the last time that I will favor them if they can’t pull this one out….

0-6 Riverview @ 1-5 Claymont (-6)

Dont know what to say about this one except I’m sure the 50/50 drawing wont be worth buying a ticket for.  I feel Claymont wins this in a very low scoring game.

5-1 Dover (-31)@ 3-3 Cambridge

Dovers compitition will improve a tad this week but should not be anything to worry about.  Cambridge has lost two critical games against Licking Valley & Sheridan which I feel has shown their true colors.

1-5 Meadowbrook @ 6-0 New Phila (-56)

I’ll make this one short.  The Quakers can make this score anything they want.  Just depends on when the starters come out.

3-3 McKinley (-24) @ 2-4 Perry

Neither team has really been too impressive but I feel that the Bulldogs athletisism should prevail in a fairly convincing victory.

3-3 Lake @ 5-1 GlenOak (-16)

Lake will keep this one close for some part of game but I feel that GlenOak will pull it out.  By the way, I feel the Eagles are the 2nd best team in Stark county.

4-2 CVCA (-36) @ 1-5 Fairless

Another long year for the Falcons.  Can they stay focused and keep the remainder of their games close?  CVCA in a blowout!

1-5 Timken @ 3-3 Tuslaw (-35)

Tuslaw is not as stong as they were last year but I feel in this game that will not matter.  Timken has struggled to score much at all this year.  Tuslaw big!

GAME OF THE WEEK!!

5-1 Massillon (-7) @ 6-0 Stuebenville

Big Red has a lot on the line.  They have not lost a regular season game in over 6 years and they have a very long home winning streak.  The Tigers kept it close (if not should have beat) with St. Ignatius.   As long as the Tigers dont have a major let down, I see the Tigers crashing Big Reds party.
